The DPS National Basketball Tournament Girls (Open) – 2024
The DPS National Basketball Girls Open Tournament – 2024, under the aegis of the Delhi Public School Society, was proudly hosted by Delhi Public School, Vasant Kunj, from 4th to 6th December 2024. This prestigious event brought together fourteen Zonal Champions from across India to compete for the coveted title.
Inaugural Ceremony
The tournament’s opening ceremony, held on 4th December 2024, was an event to remember. The Chief Guest, Padma Bhushan awardee and Chairman of the DPS Society, Shri. B.K. Chaturvedi, graced the occasion, while the Special Guest, Mr. Narender Kumar Grewal, an International Basketball Player and Coach of the Indian Men’s Basketball Team, added a touch of inspiration. The distinguished guests were warmly welcomed by the Principal, Ms. Deepti Vohra. In her address, she expressed heartfelt gratitude at the opportunity to host the prestigious National sporting event. The school’s distinguished alumna, Ms. Nishita Sabarwal, from the 2016-2017 batch, was also felicitated during the program, marking her remarkable achievements. A vibrant march past by the participating teams set the stage for the tournament, showcasing their enthusiasm and sportsmanship. The performance by the prestigious brass band of CRPF added an extra charm to the ceremony.
The DPS Society flag was hoisted by the Chief Guest, Shri B.K Chaturvedi, Chairman, The DPS Society. He then administered the oath to all the players and urged them to play in the true spirit of sportsmanship.
The inaugural match between the host school, DPS Vasant Kunj, and DPS Ruby Park, Kolkata gave a thrilling start to the event.
The Knockout Stage League matches, along with four Quarter Final matches, were played on 5th December 2024. Teams exhibited exceptional skills and competitive spirit, making the tournament a true celebration of basketball.
The Semi-Final matches were played on early in the day on December 6th, 2024.
First Semi-Final match – DPS Sec-45, Gurgaon vs DPS Vasant Kunj
Second Semi-Final match- DPS Faridabad vs DPS Noida
Valedictory Ceremony
The Valedictory Ceremony, held on 6th December 2024, commenced with the nail-biting final match between DPS Noida and the host school team, DPS Vasant Kunj. The Chief Guest, Shri V.K. Shunglu, Vice-Chairman of the DPS Society along with Ms. Madhu Shunglu ma’am graced the occasion. DPS Vasant Kunj alumna, Divyangna Singh was also present at the Ceremony to motivate the players. For the Valedictory Ceremony, the talented dancers of the host school showcased a aesthetically choreographed performance using basketball as a prop. A short audio-visual presentation showcasing the highlights of the tournament was also shown during the ceremony. The Chief Guest of the day, Shri V.K Shunglu, Vice-Chairman, the DPS Society congratulated the host school and all the other school teams on the exceptional display of skills.

Winners: The coveted Rolling Trophy for the ‘Winner of the Tournament’ was awarded to DPS Noida Team.
Individual Awards:
Best Player of the Tournament: Harleen Kaur Sachdeva of DPS Mathura Road Team.
Best Emerging Player of the Tournament: Jinisha Singh of DPS Vasant Kunj Team.
The DPS National Basketball Girls Open Tournament – 2024, with its blend of competitive sportsmanship and camaraderie, was a grand success, leaving an indelible mark on all participants and spectators.
