Workshop on Holistic Progress Card by PARAKH

 A two-day workshop on the Holistic Progress Card developed by PARAKH (Performance Assessment, Review, and Analysis of Knowledge for Holistic Development) was conducted on 8th and 9th October, 2025 at HRDC, DPSS.

The sessions were organized under the able guidance of Dr. Sandhya Awasthi, Director, HRDC, and Ms. Shivani Gandhi, Joint Director, HRDC. The workshop aimed to familiarize participants with the framework and approach of the new holistic report card in alignment with NEP 2020.

Eminent resource persons shared valuable insights on integrating cognitive, co-curricular, and socio-emotional indicators into student assessment.

Interactive discussions and group activities helped participants understand the shift from marks-based evaluation to competency-based assessment.The sessions emphasized child-centric assessment practices focusing on progress, participation, and potential.

Participants also engaged in hands-on exercises to design sample report card formats. I have The workshop provided clarity on the role of teachers and school leaders in implementing the holistic progress card effectively. It was an enriching and insightful experience for all the attendees.

The programme was well coordinated by the HRDC team and reflected DPSS’s commitment to continuous professional growth.

Headmistress, Mrs. Mamta Narula, along with Supervisors, Mrs. Meenakshi Malhotra and Mrs. Nandita Yadav from Delhi Public School, Vasant Kunj, attended the workshop.

The participants expressed gratitude to HRDC for organizing such a meaningful and forward-looking session.

   

 

 

EARLY CHILDHOOD CARE & EDUCATION- 2025, HRDC

HRDC organized a four-day residential program from 23rd to 26th September 2025, which provided an enriching experience and emphasised the importance of the early childhood years. Ms. Sonal Chopra from DPS Vasant Kunj attended the workshop.

Day 1 began with a session on ‘Understanding How children Learn in Early years’ by Ms. Venita Kaul, who highlighted the significance of developing language, early literacy, physical and motor skills, socio-emotional development, and creativity, which are crucial elements of growth in the early years. This was followed by an engaging session by Ms. Pooja and Ms. Anuradha, on ‘Hands-on & Minds-on Learning with Jodo Gyan’, where they equipped teachers with simple yet powerful strategies to make mathematics engaging and meaningful.

On the second and third days, the resource person, Ms. Shainaz Jussa, emphasized the importance of Jolly Phonics in laying the foundation for strong literacy skills. Teachers learned that by combining sounds, actions, and stories, children not only retain information better but also develop a genuine love for reading and writing.

Day 4 began with a session by Ms. Purnima Contractor, who emphasized the role of music and movement in the early years for holistic development. These activities enhance motor skills, improve coordination, stimulate memory, and strengthen language development, while creating a joyful classroom atmosphere where children feel free to express themselves and learn enthusiastically.

The second session was conducted by Ms. Deepika Ahlawat & Dr. Ravi Km, who reminded the participants that behaviour and talent are deeply interconnected in early childhood. They discussed strategies to understand the children’s behaviour and to strengthen early childhood skills without pressure ensuring that children remain confident, motivated, and ready for future learning.

The workshop provided valuable insights and strategies to enhance classroom teaching methodologies. It deepened the understanding of early childhood, phonics instruction and creative approaches such as  integrating music and movement into learning. It also highlighted the importance of creating a positive learning environment. Overall, it was a highly enriching experience, inspiring teachers to foster a more engaging and effective learning atmosphere.

 

 

  Principles and  Practices of Assessment: Optimising Classroom Decision Making

 A webinar on “Principles and  Practices of Assessment: Optimising Classroom Decision Making” was conducted on 2nd, 18th and 24th September by the DPSS, for the Cambridge teachers. The resource persons were Dr. Simon Child, Mr. Gill Francis and Mr. James Beadle. The Cambridge teachers of DPS VK  attended the session.

The sessions reinforced the principles of assessment, their effective implementation within the Cambridge framework using reflection, collaboration, and innovation. The resource persons also discussed the requirements of portfolio development, developing SMART goals that align with the Curriculum and analyzing  the exemplar provided for meaningful learning.

The sessions provided a comprehensive framework for developing assessment strategies that are aligned with curriculum goals and promote meaningful learning, build the knowledge and practical expertise in assessment and how it supports curriculum delivery and learning.

During the breakout sessions, participants discussed defining the goal of innovation, implementing changes to make it ‘SMART’. Group brainstorming helped refine goals to be more specific, such as being more observant, using simple and comprehensible checklists, encouraging parental involvement, and enhancing digital literacy.

The training successfully reinforced the principles of assessment introduced in the earlier workshops and guided participants in applying them effectively within the Cambridge Early Years and Cambridge Primary framework.  

 

 

 Prashast Orientation Program

A session on the Prashast Orientation Program for the teachers and Reps of Class XI was conducted on 28th June, 2025 by the Special Educator-Counsellor, Ms. Surpreet Oberoi. The session aimed to orient the teachers regarding screening and early identification of children using the Prashast App. The app designed by NCERT, helps identify children who are ‘at risk’ of having a disability and may require special attention. The teachers were guided through the step-by-step process of using Prashast in both online and offline modes. They were further given a detailed description of all the 21 disabilities with special focus on depression, anxiety, substance abuse and mood disorders. The session was informative and interactive, enabling the teachers to clearly understand the procedure and address their queries.

 

 

Cambridge Training Programme

The Cambridge training programme on ‘Principles and Practices of Assessment- Optimising Classroom Decision Making’ was held at HRDC, Greater Noida, by the Delhi Public School Society from 14th to 17th July 2025. Ms. Anju Kaistha, the Cambridge Coordinator, along with her team of Cambridge-certified teachers from the Early and Primary years, attended the session. An insight into the ‘Assessment Theory’ to align the curriculum and practices with Cambridge standards using different types of assessment was provided. Various diverse techniques were discussed to make the tests more relevant and child-friendly. The ‘Discover, Decide and Do’ approach was also discussed. The interactive session addressed participants’ questions, providing clarity on designing effective assessment tasks, optimising feedback for learners, and developing portfolios. 

 

 

Health Awareness Session

On 23rd May, 2025, Dr. Apoorva, the school doctor, conducted an informative session for the Junior School teachers about managing students with medical conditions such as seizures and diabetes. The session aimed to equip teachers with essential knowledge and clear protocols to follow in case of a medical emergency. Key procedures for immediate response, identifying symptoms, and ensuring student's safety were discussed in detail. The session was well-received and emphasized the importance of preparedness and timely intervention.

 

Prashast Orientation Program

On 21st May 2025, a session was conducted by the special educator and counselor, Ms. Surpreet Oberoi, to orient teachers and Reps of classes I to V on screening and early identification of children using the Prashast App.

This app has been designed by NCERT to screen children who are "at risk" of having a disability and may require special education. The teachers were guided on how to use Prashast step by step in both online and offline modes. They were also provided with a detailed description of all 21 disabilities. The session was informative and interactive, allowing teachers to understand the procedures and clarify their doubts.

 

HRDC Workshop on ‘Developing Effective Reading Skills and Using New Hindi Textbooks in Context of NEP’

On May 19, 2025, the Delhi Public School Society, HRDC, organized two virtual workshops. More than 200 teachers  attended the workshop. Ms. Meenakshi Dixit from DPS Vasant Kunj was among the participants.

The first session focused on Basic Literacy and Children’s Literature, with Professor Usha Sharma from the Department of Primary Elementary Education, NCERT, as the speaker. She shared engaging methods to make reading enjoyable for young learners.

The second session was conducted by Dr. Neelkanth Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Language at NCERT and convener and coordinator of Hindi textbooks. He provided insights into the National Education Policy, the National Curriculum Framework, and the new Hindi textbooks for Classes III, IV, and V. He elaborated Pentagonal concepts and units of textbooks. Overall, the workshop was highly informative and educational.

 

A SESSION ON 'SAY NO TO TABACCO'

On 14th May 2025, a session titled "The Mindfulness Perspective on Tobacco Cessation" was conducted in collaboration with Rotary Club Safdarjung and IDA to commemorate World No Tobacco Day. The event began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by the welcome address by the Principal, Mrs. Deepti Vohra. The resource person, Rotarian Mrs. Arpana Khanna, Energy and Mindfulness Coach, conducted an engaging and interactive session discussing the harmful effects of tobacco and the need for a shift in mindset. She introduced strategies like BREAK (Be Responsible, Resist Temptation, Escape the Habit, Adopt Healthy Habits, Keep Going) and CMPC (Commit, Motivate, Practice Healthy Routine, Control), specifically for individuals who are consuming tobacco. The students asked insightful questions, which were answered by the resource person. The event concluded with a vote of thanks.

    

 

 

Fire Safety Workshop

14th May 2025

 

Awareness and mindfulness are the prerequisites for preparedness to face any impending disaster. In continuation of our efforts at DPS Vasant Kunj to mentally prepare our students for any unforeseen emergency, a workshop on fire safety was conducted for classes VI, VII and VIII in the MPH.

The resource person, Sh. Narender Kumar Gaur, Fire Officer, Delhi Fire Services, engaged around 700 students in an interactive session wherein the students learned important facts about different fire situations. He also shared some important tips with them to handle fire emergencies and save lives.

The children also participated in a live demonstration of using fire extinguishers at the Amphitheater. The children were apprised about the precautions to be taken while using the equipment and for their maintenance. 

It was an insightful and enriching experience.

 

    

   

 

 

Safe and Unsafe Touch

 A group counselling session on "Safe and Unsafe Touch” was conducted on 5th May, 2025 for the students of classes IV & V in the Mini-Auditorium by the school counsellor, Ms. Surpreet Oberoi.

The session aimed to create awareness among students about how to differentiate between good and bad touch. The concept was effectively  explained with the help of an interesting video. The problem solving techniques were also explained with the help of  various real-life situations.

It was an interactive and empowering session, encouraging students to speak and take a stand against inappropriate behavior. The students  actively participated, shared their experiences and liked the session.

  

 

 

Cyber Security Awareness Session by Dr. Rakshit Tandon

 

 

 

A much-needed Cyber Security Awareness Session was held on 30th April 2025 in the school’s Multipurpose Hall, exclusively designed for the students of Classes 9 to 12, and attended by teachers and administrative staff.

The sessions were conducted by Dr. Rakshit Tandon, a distinguished Cyber Security Evangelist and National Cyber Security Investigator, with more than two decades of experience in cyber forensics, ethical hacking, and digital safety education. He currently serves as a key resource person for the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD), Ministry of Home Affairs, and is a Consultant to the Haryana Police Department for cybercrime investigations.

Dr. Tandon’s session was engaging, interactive, and filled with practical insights. It aimed at equipping students with essential knowledge and life skills to safely navigate the digital landscape. The following key areas were covered during the session:

Cyber Hygiene & Digital Diet – Understanding the importance of balanced digital usage and safe online habits.

Social Media – Threats and Securities – Identifying risks and securing one’s presence on platforms like Instagram, Snapchat, etc.

Mobile Devices – Threats and Securities – Discussing potential vulnerabilities and ways to safeguard smartphones and apps.

Online Gaming – Safety and Security – Highlighting common threats, addiction, and safe practices while gaming online.

Cyber Laws – Implications of Flouting the Laws – Educating students about the legal consequences of irresponsible digital behaviour.

Safe Online Shopping – Teaching students to make secure digital transactions and avoid fraud.

Redressals and Support for Threats – Informing about avenues and mechanisms available for reporting and addressing cyber threats.

Digital Footprints and Trails – Emphasizing the long-term impact of one’s online activities and how to protect digital identity.

The session was conducted in two well-coordinated slots.

Teachers and class representatives ensured smooth movement and discipline throughout the event.

The sessions was widely appreciated for its relevance, depth, and engaging delivery. It left a lasting impact on students and staff alike, reminding all of the critical need for cyber awareness, personal accountability, and digital discipline in today’s tech-driven world.

  

  

 

 

Workshop Organised by DPSS HRDC: Sharing Best Teaching Practices (Primary)

On 23rd April 2025, the Delhi Public School Society – Human Resource Development Centre (DPSS HRDC) organized a workshop to showcase and share best practices in primary education. Over 250 educators participated in the session, which began with an address by Mrs. Sandhya Awasthi, Executive Director, DPSS HRDC, highlighting the need for thoughtful planning and holistic learning. Ms. Anubha Tiwary from DPS Vasant Kunj attended the workshop and presented innovative ways to integrate storytelling across subjects like Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Languages. The workshop offered a valuable platform for educators to reflect on and enhance their teaching methods through peer learning.

 

 

Meeting for Inclusive Fest’ 2025

The Inclusive Education Branch, Directorate of Education, GNCTD, organised a meeting on 8 April, 2025 (Tuesday) at the Conference Room, Old Secretariat, Vidhan Sabha, Delhi. The meeting was held under the chairpersonship of Ms. Shreya Singhal, IAS, Additional Director (Education) to initiate preliminary planning for discussing the active participation of our school in the upcoming Inclusive Fest-2025, tentatively scheduled from 28 to 30 April, 2025. This pioneering event aims to celebrate the talents and achievements of children with various disabilities and diverse needs fostering an inclusive environment by providing a platform to showcase their skills across various domains, including games, and creative and performing arts. The meeting was attended by Ms. Boski Sharma.

Key points discussed in the meeting:

1.      Tentative dates and Venue: The event is scheduled to be held from 28 to 30 April, 2025 at Thyagraj Stadium, INA. 

2.      Events for Public Schools

      -          Quiz Competition: 6 students (4 CWSN and 2 Buddies) to participate

      -          Fashion Show: 6 CWSN students to participate

      -          All practice sessions will take place at the venue only. 

3.      Active Participation is expected from the school as the event is a flagship initiative of the government.

4.      Wall of Fame: Schools can provide names and details of current students or alumni who have made notable achievements in any field for the wall of fame.

5.      Promotional Slide/PPT and Prop: Schools can provide promotional content in the form of physical props or digital presentations.

The meeting with Ms. Shreya Singhal ma’am and Ms. Stuti provided valuable insights into the objectives and planning of the event. Inclusive Fest’ 2025 seems a promising exposure for children with special needs.
